My Son Got a 9 Point Buck....

During youth deer season my son got a 9 pointer...took him down with 1 shot!

They are hunting again tomorrow...hope to have two more by the time they are through. We processed the deer ourselves (and let me tell you, this is pretty new to us!). I just about cut the tip of my thumb off because hubby sharpened the knives. I do not like deer burger, so we cut the back straps into steaks, then other cuts into bite size chunks to make grilled kabobs (we made some the other day marinated in Italian dressing and it was amazing!) and/or stew meat. The rest we are using to make jerky. My husband had a batch of jerky in the dehydrator right now and the house smells delicious! Happy hunting!

  3. I use it as a substitute for burger!! Chili is Soooo good!! I use some kind of flavored wine or vinegar when I cook buck meat though.. THe younger deer or does make excellent roast..
And Summer sausage is absolutely wonderful!! Year before last we had Five deer! Kyle killed 4 and we were given one.. I was sick of cutting it up and didnt cook it for about a month... Dogs had lots of bones and pieces to chew on and the neighbors dog too.. Cats were all full even the chickens quit eating it...Lol

  5. Breanna...we have just been using the packets of seasoning that came with my dehydrator and the jerky pump thing (I am sure it has a name, but I have no idea what it is!) They are really good. But I was thinking I probably am going to have to come up with a recipe.

  6. Congrats to your son on his buck! This was the first year since I met my hubby that we didn't have at least one buck in the freeze...everybody got so busy this year! Our daughter use to get the biggest one each season...maybe there will be time next year! Enjoy all the fun...we always process our own deer...we have a commercial meat grinder in our kitchen for grinding burger and sausage. We make, rather made, jerkey, deer salamis, pepperonis and the like...coming up with a seasoning recipe for your jerkey is easy. We've tried all sorts of them...teriyaki, spicy...and the regular salt, pepper and garlic powder. Two sources for premixed stuff is Cabela's and TheSausageMaker.com...they have everything! It's nice to get meat out of the freeze and not have to buy it in the store. So I guess that means we'll be eating alot of lamb this year since THAT'S whats in the freeze!!
    Haha...enjoy the spoils :)
