His momma is old and my FIL didn't even think she had been bred. Surprise! She's not doing so well and she had no milk. My hubby decided we should give it a go with this baby. He's small. He's weak. He's not a very good eater, but he is eating. So send him some prayers, if you are the praying type! If you're not, just wish him luck! We haven't named him yet. In other news, the ducklings are doing excellent and they are growing so fast! I will post pictures again soon andf all of the things I have learned about ducks so far.
I am now on Ravelry and I am knitting these....
Thanks to Mrs. S for loaning me this book! :) My 15 year old daughter wants one of these dolls too. Actually, she wants hers first, before my 5 year old. :) LOL Sibling rivalry or something? I am having an absolutely terrible time trying to figure out how to Increase. Other than that, I am enjoying working on them.We got our potatoes in the ground Friday. Yippie!
Anyway, it is a busy Monday, so I am outta here. :) I hope you have a Happy Monday!!

awww that does suck about the baby calf! very cool knitted dolls jennifer! can't wait to see the end product! aww your kids are spaced out a little bit aren't they? keeps you hopping i know!lol very good the ducklings are doing well and congrats on getting the taters in! it seems to have rained everyday here for weeks! i haven't got any of my veggies in yet. can't next weekend as my youngest son is getting married so will be busy then. maybe sunday.....lol have a beeee utiful day jennifer!
ReplyDeleteOh, what a bummer. I know how frustrating that is and can totally relate. I wrote about our bad batch of calves here. Especially if the baby didn't get colostrum, it didn't have much chance no matter what you did.
ReplyDeleteOn a brighter note, I planted my potatoes this weekend too. I can't hardly wait to see how they do. I hope you post updates on your knitting project, it looks like a fun one. I'm working on felted slippers for my husband. I got almost done last night and had to tear most of one apart because it was crooked somehow. Good thing knitting is addictive, I'd have quit by now!
I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. I know it is something we have to work to keep from happening but take in stride when it does. He looked beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to than you for the water blog. Wow I don't think I have seen that one and don't know how I could have missed it.
Can I say you are totally blessed with 3 wells. and I don't know how much it costs but I would have them tested 1 time per year so that if you need to use it there is no question and you don't waste precious fuel boiling water if you don't need to. Thank you for your thoughts of my nephew also
Leslie, thanks! And enjoy that wedding!:)
ReplyDeleteJena, do you know anything about buying actual colostrum to store in the freezer? I read about it somewhere and was thinking it would be a good idea to have some in the freezer. But my FIL is planning on selling half his cows this year and half next year, so may not be much of a need. Yes, knitting is definitely addictive! :) Sucks that you had to back track onthe slippers, but I am looking forward to seeing them! I'm still stuck on Increasing, so I am workig everything else that I can for two dolls and then I will get help from a friend to learn to increase.
Sweetheartsmom, glad you liked the link. :)
Sorry for your loss. Yay the potatoes are in. Good job!!!
ReplyDeleteI have not dealt with real colostrum before but I know that you can collect it and freeze it like you said. Just be sure to warm it in a dish of warm water, not the microwave, that would kill all the good stuff. If any of the cows have a lot of milk or lose their calves you could milk out some of the colostrum yourself, assuming they would let you. I'm sure a dairy would sell you some but try to get it nearby. The more like your environment the better so that it contains the proper antibodies. If all else fails you can use the store bought colostrum mix but I wouldn't expect it to work as well. Hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your sweet little calf!
ReplyDeleteWhat's your ravelry name? I'll look you up!
Thanks for the info Jena. We used the store bought colostrum, but that is what I wonder...if their chances would increase with the real thing, even if it had been frozen.
ReplyDeleteMaria, I am jenngardenknitter. Seeing your knitted fishy hat is what made me want to learn to knit in the first place! :) I am not ready to try them yet, but I will get there! Those hats are just too cute!
