Tomatoes and onions...

More Tomatoes and Peppers...
Another of Tomatoes and Peppers....Plus the tall things with sticks are Moon Flowers - they are vining up the sticks already!
They seem to be a pain to start - packet said keep them warm, moist and watered from the bottom, covered, and under light for 24 hours a day until they sprout! Once they sprout the cover can come off, the heat pad can go bye-bye, and the light can be reduced to 14 hours per day.
I started the Stevia seeds today. And this is my set up...

not sure hon, but i think that your plants can go straight into the greenhouse and from there the garden. you will have to post on how you like the stevia. i have tried it (a friend grew it) but to be truthful, never experimented much with it and will be curious what you do use it for and how you like it. been working on your present every day for a week now!lol i just had a calling to do something i have never done before, so having a blast making it for you. should be done sometime this next week and in the mail for you. love your posts on your seedlings and quite proud of you! how are you keeping kitty out of them? hugs :)
ReplyDeleteWow your tomatoes are kicking butt! They look great! I am so excited now to see mine (hopefully) get to that point. Last year's died early on due to no light so I've never had any get as far as yours.
ReplyDeleteForgive me for sounding clueless, but what are Stevia seeds? I've never heard of such a thing.
Leslie, I guess I am fortunate that the critters leave them alone! The only casuality I have had was a tomato plant the lab dog knocked off wagging his tail. I am looking forward to my present. :) I still haven't started yours! I knew what I was going to make, then had a second idea and have been getting that planned out. I'll get there...I promise! :)
ReplyDeleteStevia...I love stevia! Stevia is an herb that is sweet like sugar but has no calories and doesn't impact blood sugar. You can buy it in stores, health food stores mostly, but our Wal-mart has been carrying it in packets lately too, I think called Truvia, so I think it is becoming more popular. Sweetleaf is another brand name. There is also a product that is naturally flavored stevia, flavors like root beer and grape and chocolate - a few drops of root beer in water tastes like a glass of rootbeer without the sugar and calories. A few drops of the chocolate in milk tastes regular chocolate milk. The kids love it! And it is so much healthier than a glass of milk with chocolate syrup in it. They also have flavors to add to coffee, still natural and no calories or artifical junk in them. You can use the dried herb in a tea ball with loose tea to sweeten it. You can also make your own bottled type to add drops to drinks, like tea, I have read about doing it but haven't done it yet. I have read you can munch on the fresh leaves too. It is cheap to buy the dried herb in bulk, but the processed packets and flavored drops are more expensive, but also it only takes a little bit so even though the dropper bottles seem expensive, we have had a $12 bottle of the rootbeer flavor last a year. I hope this makes sense! And I hope you'll try it. And I hope mine grows!!
Very cool - thanks for enlightening me. I'll watch your progress and see how that goes, maybe I will try it someday!
ReplyDeleteWow your plants look great. As far as hardening off, I would (if you have one) put your plants a few hours into an unheated light room. When you get the green house up place a thermometer in it and see how cool/warm it gets. Then use your best judgement or place a few plants straight in there and see how they do.
ReplyDeleteYes let us know how the stevia seeds do. I had read they are hard to start. I had planned on ordering plants and starting them this year. I bet they are expensive.
Thank you for the well wishes regarding my sis and nephew.
I wish I could help with your question, just saying they look really good!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies! :) Sweetheart's mom, I know that Wal-Mart had Stevia plants last year for I think $3 each, in with their other herb plants. I didn't buy one though. I know a local lady who ran a natural store that grew it successfully...I should get in touch with her to see if she'll share her growing secrets. :)
ReplyDeletevery cool info jennifer! never knew stevia came in those flavors. i will have to look for them at our stores. you have inspired me to try stevia again. i got some of the liquid kind and just couldn't get my adjustment right on how much to add to my coffee or tea, but due to your posting, i am going to try again! isn't it great having friends that inspire us to try new things and retry things we gave up on!? lol big hugs and thanks :)
