Tons and tons of peppers...cherry peppers, mild jalapenos, bells. I just put 13 quarts to brine overnight and will can them tomorrow. Then I am going to make stuffed peppers. Lots of stuffed peppers. After hubby got home he also picked a huge amount of hot peppers. I stick to the mild ones. He deals with the hot ones. All the peppers in these pics are mild.
Butternut squash. First year growing it...and excited to eat it! Next year I will plant less zucchini and more Butternut and some acorn too.
A Zucchini about as big as my baby! Those suckers sure do get out of control fast! These biggies are not going to waste...we have been grating them up and feeding them to the ducks! They love them!
More peppers....and a few tomatoes! My hubby got me all excited...he said there really are a lot of tomatoes down there...more than you think. Ummm, one Wal-mart bag full honey? One? From 55 plants? Last year I only had a fraction of the amount of plants and had laundry baskets full of maters! Oh well...we'll make some salsa and life goes on.
And more zucchini...and see that blue dutch oven? That is the cutie I got for my birthday!
And the Guineas....have yet to be ordered. I still have reservations. We have a ton of toads everywhere and apparently they will eat them too. That bugged me a bit, I like the toads everywhere! Hubby didn't think it was any big deal and said "Order them!". :) LOL We did talk about where we'd build them a house and how we would go about raising them. I imagine before too long we'll have some new babies around the house.
The Dirty Divas? Doing awesome! I need to take pics...hubby built them 3 nest boxes. No eggs, yet. I imagine later this month or early next. They fly, which they have been doing for a while now, but they don't fly out of their play yard, which really surprises me because they are right close to the creek, and as much as they love water, one would think they'd just fly down there and fly back up in the evening. They just fly into their pool, or out of their pool, or across their yard. But not out of it. Not so far anyway! And I am a little amazed that we still have all of the original 16. I thought for sure we'd lose a couple to illness or predators or small children...but nope, so far so good!

good gracious how big of a garden did you have!!!???!!!
ReplyDeletethat's an amazing harvest
makes me feel panicked just thinking about how you are going to jar/can all of that!
i'm overwhelmed with my weekly csa, lol
the guinea fowl--oh, i didn't know about the toads...that makes me sad :(
i'm going to be moving mine out this weekend--they are too big for the trough and crazy in there...when i feed them it's outright panick to get away from me--they are wild little things! they can fly already too!
really--if you are in my neighborhood--you can pick some from my batch :)
the ducks
we just have 3 and i so love them
they are funny and cute
they go quacking around the yard like they are laughing
when they see me heading for the food shed they come running as fast as they can go
cute cute little things :)
mine can't fly more than like 2 feet...but they are peking and a rouen
fun catch up
i'm so impressed with your bountiful harvest
i was really proud of my popcorn and the horses ate it :(
Wow, looks like things are going awesome at your place! I really enjoyed this post and all your pictures!
ReplyDeleteA good update! My gosh your garden is cranking the stuff out! I can't seem to grow a good pepper to save my soul. The first year I gardened, I had a bushel basket full of pretty bell peppers, that was 15 years ago. Haven't grown a good one since! I'm sure your tomatoes will start coming and soon.
ReplyDeletePS and you should post about being held up at gun point. OH MY GOSH!
That's a great idea about the zucchini and feeding it to the ducks. I wonder if my chickens would eat them if I just slice them in half. I pitched a big one out in to the pasture to rot today so I'll save them next time. I'm excited for tomato season but at the same time I'm dreading it. I'm afraid it might already be apple season only I've been avoiding the apple trees so I won't find out...last year it felt like all I did for 3 months was peel, slice, can apples, repeat.
ReplyDeleteI've been knitting gifts like crazy for weddings and baby showers so once the next few projects are done I'll dive in to canning full force.
Wow, great pickings!
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me, I saw stuff needing to be picked while I was down mowing. Your garden must be huge. :)
What a cutie you've got there, holding that squash. LOL
