Pork Steak Recipe Success!
I bought already tenderized (pounded on) pork steak. They had that and regular. I bought a pack that had 6 in it. Browned them in my cast iron skillet, then placed them in a 9x13 baking dish and sliced up an onion over them (and cried because it burned my eyes!). I mixed together 2 cans of cream of chicken soup, a couple of soup cans of water, a packet of dry onion soup mix, some pepper, garlic powder and onion powder, and poured that over them and covered it with foil. Baked it for about an hour and a half (actually probably for a little longer). Served it with mashed potatoes, and green beans cooked with onions and a piece of bacon, and it was a huge hit with the hubby and kids! Definitely not low fat/calorie/sodium, but tasted good! And the meat was super tender, melt in your mouth. It made A LOT of gravy so I do think next time I will cut the soup to one can and the water to one can.

ReplyDeleteIt sounds good though!
ReplyDeleteSounds yummy!
ReplyDeleteI was reading your blog the other day on the computer hooked to the tv, waiting for my husband to come back into the room, and he said, that blog friend lady must live not far from us, since pork steak is an around here thing, and not everywhere in the US. I had no idea, lol.
I also have been known to put pork steak in a boiled dinner when I can't find unsmoked ham hocks. It works pretty well. My style boiled dinner is potatoes, carrots, cabbage, pork, and water, all simmered for a while.
Yum-o! Sorry I missed your post about the pork steaks. I've never cooked them, believe it or not. I do take thin boneless pork chops, and brown them, then layer them with onions and potatoes, sprinkling a bit of brown sugar and vinegar on each layer, and then bake it for an hour or so. It's pretty yummy! Glad you tried something new and were successful with it!
